Sugar cookies gone bad

I think sugar cookies are probably one of my favorite cookies and the kids LOVE to decorate them this time of year. So last night we made and decorated cookies. Caleb helped by mixing the cookies and Zach did the frosting. I absolutely LOVE almond extract in my sugar cookies. In fact I don't make a recipe unless it calls for it. But then we found out that we didn't have any. OH NO. So we could either use extra vanilla extract or get a little daring and try lemon extract. Caleb wanted to stick with the good ole vanilla but I wanted to try the lemon. So we decided to try the lemon. And boy do I regret that. After the cookies were done and frosted we all ate a cookie. Mayah and Ethan took one bite and the rest went in the garbage. Caleb took forever to eat his cookie and when I asked him why it was taking so long he said, "I don't really like it so I am eating it slow" It was kind of funny but I told him if he didn't like he could throw it away. Zach ended up eating 2. They were not bad in taste but they were HARD. I have NEVER made my sugar cookies hard like these and their color was still very light. The next time we do this we will make sure we have almond extract. This morning I threw the rest away. They were like a rock. OH WELL. Better in the garbage than on my hips.

I think we are going to make homemade peanut brittle in the microwave tonight. It is SUPER YUMMY. I remember my mom making homemade peanut brittle and it was alot of work. At an enrichment long ago they made this and it was so good. You cannot even tell it is from the microwave and it is sooooooooooooo easy. That is my kind of cooking. I am hoping that if we spread out our candy making it will be alot easier to avoid getting sick. Plus it makes for a nice time to get the kids together and listen to Christmas music and spend some extra time thinking of the holidays. I really love this time of year.

Lisa,
You so thoroughly impress me. I read your blog and I feel like a big dud. I mean, without your husband, you take the kids on outings, set up all of Christmas, work in your yard, make home repairs, and bake. I am just in awe! If only my kids had such a fun and energetic mother.

Since you dropped by on my blog, I'm dropping in on yours!! Fantastic work on the cookies! I should've used lemon extract in mine because the gingerbread cookies we made a few days ago, ALL GONE (and no I didn't throw them away!!)

I ditto the previous comment, you are a super awesome mom! Now when are you going to come visit us? We'll be making cookies again next week ;)

Lisa,
I just got off the phone with your Mom, she is such a sweetheart. I miss family so much, especially my aunts who always watch out for me since my Mom passed away. Okay you may still be wondering...I am your Aunt Dianes oldest, her only daughter. You are a cousin. LOL! We should probably have a family reunion, huh? Anyway what a darling family you have, I can see some of your older siblings in your children, so fun. I agree what a fun energetic mom you are, that is so great. I guess you listened to President Monson's talk and are "enjoying the journery". It is so much more fun that way. You can come visit me at my blog, although I have been busy lately and haven't updated for a month...maybe this weekend...
Take care
Merry Christmas
