We are not the typical family. We are a large family YES. We are a busy family YES. We are a loud family YES. We are a crazy family YES. We are a chaotic family YES.
I have a hard time with most of these. I love that there are lots of us....but I am not too big on the loud, busy, crazy and chaotic. But it is us and I am trying to adjust.
Just picture dinner at our house. We have five kids ages 14-6. So you would think we could endulge in normal conversations. Right. We can't even get everyone to the table at the same time. It seems just as dinner is about to be served someone is in the bathroom.....and I'm not just talking a five minute trip. This lasts quite awhile. This particular person likes to take a book in there. But why does that happen when its dinner time...or scripture time....or when we need to be leaving. I do not know.
Finally after everyone does get to the table someone has already started eating before prayer. Someone is standing. Another is clinging their fork on the plate.
And before dinner has even been devoured I am usually ready for bed. Sounds fun huh? Doesn't this make you want to invite us over for dinner? We have been invited over to peoples houses before but only ONCE. Makes me laugh....really. My kids have energy. And LOTS of it. There is ADD/ADHD in our home and boy does it get exhausting. PHEW... I prefer to stay home anyway so this is a good excuse.
Most people can only handle us in small doses and that is OK. I can only handle us in small doses. But it is my life and I am learning alot. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a small family. Oh it would be quiet all right (and I like quiet)...but oh how boring. How boring it would be without all the extra 'fun'. I am thankful despite all the noise and fighting and chaos. I am grateful for five kids. I am grateful for good kids....that have huge hearts and caring souls. When all is said and done I might not be sane in the end but I will never be bored...and that is the truth.
