my calling

I have to admit that when we first moved into this ward it wasn't an easy transition. We moved in on a Wednesday and Don left Friday to Iraq. So I was pretty much left by myself to unpack and figure out the schools and church alone. So that first Sunday I went to RS and felt pretty lonely. I also did not take the initiative to branch out and talk with anyone. I found myself just getting all five kids to church and to their classes and then packed up in the car to get them home afterwards. Well the very next Sunday I was called into the nursery. I wasn't too happy about it but I accepted. I have never turned down a calling and don't believe I should. It was hard. Being home all day with the kids and not having any breaks with Don gone and then teaching in the nursery each week kind of wore on me a little. But I was alteast thankful that the lessons were easy to prepare. I mean how hard can it be to teach the kids about being thankful for animals. Or how about being thankful for families. The kids were so cute and Mayah loved it that I was her teacher.

I was released a few months ago and put in the primary to teach the 8-11 year old girls. They separate the boys and girls in this when they turn 8. I am also in charge of Activity Days two times a month. I have to say that I LOVE being in the primary and being able to see all 5 kids in there each week. I love the songs they sing. I love the program all together. It is awesome. Today Ethans teacher told me that he had a surprise for me. The primary works on one Article of Faith each month. This month they are working on number 3. Well Ethans teacher raised her hand and said that one of the kids in her class has memorized Article of Faith number three and wanted to share it. It was Ethan. He got up in front of the primary and shared it. He needed a little bit of help but there are some BIG words in it. Here it is for those that are not familiar with it.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

That made my day.

Quite often when I am putting Rachel to bed she wants me to sing, "I Love To See the Temple". But she wants to sing the second verse by herself. Sometimes I try to sing it with her but she hushes me and continues on her own.

Today at church they were singing that for the closing song. It is her favorite. So I looked over at her while she was singing and she literally looked like an angel to me. I couldn't take my eyes off of her...especially as she sang the second verse. It was priceless and I find it so wonderful being in there with them each week being able to take part as they learn the gospel. I know what they are learning and singing and doing. It is great. I am so thankful to be in the primary at this time.

Primary is now my favorite place to be. Don't you love the new song "I Know that My Savior Loves Me"!! Often during the week my children drive me crazy, but being with them on Sunday and watching them puts everything back into perspective. And the spirit there is always so strong...I think I'm learning more there then I ever did in Relief Society!

Lisa ~ One of my two callings is putting together the hymns each week for Sacrament Meeting, lately I have felt impressed that I need to include more of the children's type hymns that are in the hymn books (I don't know if that is because I'm supposed to include more the children in Sacrament or to remind the adults of simple Gospel truths, maybe it's a bit of both), today we sang "I am a child of God" in Sacrament Meeting and I was looking at my kids and amazed too at their sweet spirits singing as LOUDLY as they could along :). Primary Songs and Hymns are amazing teachers and reminders of the sweet simple Gospel truths. Great job teaching your kids! You'll never regret that!

p.s. I sing to the kids as they are falling asleep and frequently Brianna will hush me as well as she wants to sing "by herself" kids gotta love them!!

Don't tell my Bishop.....but I really miss being in Primary! And for all the reasons you brought up....it's amazing to see the testimonies of the kids, to hear them sing their little hearts out...I love it!

It really is those moments with your kids that really are burned into your memory. Reading about Rachel singing the Temple song (one of my favorites too) made a tear come to my eye. She is such a special girl and her little spirit really shines through.
Teaching in the nursery is rewarding and difficult to say the least. It is especially hard when your moved into a new ward and get that calling first thing, you don't get to know anyone! Your doing great and I hope that you like working with the girls, that age is so much fun!

your post brought tears to my eyes. So touching. I'm the activity day leader too. We should share ideas. We've done some really fun things the last few months. email me.

Lisa,

We're not on vacation, just taking them out of school 1/2 hour early and going night skiing at Massanutten.

I don't want to get rid of one single child, just the room. Do you remember the Manassas building's primary room? I'm trying to get closing exercises in the chapel. We'll see how that goes!!
